When you are a child, you always envy the teenagers and adults, because they seem to be more independent than you and to take much more liberties (=sich Freiheiten erlauben). Certainly you are so curious and you can hardly wait (=es kaum erwarten können) becoming older.
But when you are as old as you ever wanted to be, you notice that there are also negative aspects of being no child any longer.
On the one hand you can decide on your own about your life and to go your own ways. But on the other hand you have to take responsibility for your deeds (=Taten). Suddenly they are no parents protecting you and thinking ahead (=vorausdenken) for you. The prize of your independence is that you have to act at your own risk. Also the supposed freedom is not boundless (=grenzenlos). Instead of obeying your parents shaking their fingers (=mit dem Finger drohen), you have to follow the orders and rules of the society.
In addition you have not so much free time like a child. So you will miss the time you were younger and could play for hours without stress or work pressure (=Leistungsdruck). Besides in your childhood everything appeared to be so easy. You just had to stick to (=festhalten an fig.) the persons you loved and got to know the world. This world you got to know in your early childhood seemed to be very clear (=übersichtlich) and you never suspected to have problems to decide between good and bad. You always thought that the adults knew everything about the humans and the world. Later you are disappointed when you realize that the life is not such easy.
But there is also a time between childhood and adultness. This time is hard, because you do not really know whether you still are a child or one of the adults. You may already have the knowledge of an adult, but of course not so much maturity and experience like an adult. You have to accept yourself changing and you try to find yourself. This search could be a long difficult journey.
